René Pape(Bass)

René Pape, one of the leading international basses, received his musical education in his native city of Dresden.
He made his debut while still a student in 1988 at the Berlin State Opera and has been a member of this company ever since. There, René Pape has performed the main roles of his repertoire, such as Rocco, König Marke, König Heinrich, Pogner, Fasolt, Hunding, Sarastro, Figaro, Leporello and Don Giovanni all in new productions con-ducted by Daniel Barenboim.

He also sang Ramphis under Zubin Mehta, Don Carlos/Philipp II. and in new productions of Parsifal/Gurnemanz and Boris Godunow/title role conducted by Daniel Barenboim. It was from Berlin that René Pape developed his impressive worldwide career.

René Pape has appeared at all the major opera houses in Europe, Japan (tours with the Metropolitan New York
and Berlin State Opera) and the USA. Since his successful debut René Pape has been a welcome regular guest
artist of the Metropolitan Opera New York with commitments reaching up to 2024/2025. Under James Levine
he has appeared in new productions of Tristan und Isolde/König Marke, Fidelio/Rocco and Don Giovanni/Lepo-rello, Faust/Mephisto and revivals of Lohengrin/König Heinrich, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg/Pogner. Under Valerij Gergiev he sang his first Gurnemanz in Parsifal. He has appeared at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, San Francisco Opera, Los Angeles Opera as well as at the Bayreuth Festival (Tristan und Isolde/König Marke, leading team: Katharina Wagner/Christian Thielemann, 2017 and 2018), Glyndebourne Festival, Kazan Inter-national Schaljapin Festival, Lucerne, Munich Opera, Orange, St. Petersburg („White Nights Festival“), Salz-burg (Internationale Mozartwoche Salzburg 2019: T.H.A.M.O.S., Salzburg Festival 2019: Simone Boccanegra/ Fiesco under Valerij Gergiev) and Verbier Festival.

Equally at home on the concert platform, René Pape has appeared as a lied recitalist and as a soloist with the major symphony orchestras in all prestigious concert halls all over the world, such as in Tokyo, Madrid, London, Florence (Maggio Musicale), Rome, New York (New York Philharmonic under Sir Colin Davis, Lorin Maazel and Kurt Masur), Chicago (with the Chicago Symphony under Sir Georg Solti and Daniel Barenboim), Paris (Orchestre de Paris, Daniel Barenboim and Semyon Bychkov), Cleveland Symphony Orchestra (under Franz Welser-Möst), Philadelphia (Philadelphia Orchestra under Wolfgang Sawallisch), Berlin Philharmonic, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Bavarian State Opera (under Zubin Mehta) and Munich Philharmonic, Boston Symphony under James Levine as well as at the Lucerne Festival, Tristan und Isolde/König Marke,
2nd act under Claudio Abbado.

He has made TV-appearances, recordings and DVD’s among others on the BMG, EMI, DGG, TELDEC labels under conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Sir Colin Davis, James Levine, Sir Georg Solti, Antonio Pappano.
