Kazuhide Isomura(Viola)

Kazuhide Isomura, violist, is a graduate of Toho School of Music where he studied with Jeanne Isnard, Kenji Kobayashi, and Hideo Saito. From 1968, he studied at Juilliard School with Ivan Galamian, Walter Trampler, RobertMann, and Raphael Hillyer. Mr. Isomura is a founding member of the Tokyo String Quartet which won the Young Concert Artists International Auditions and First prize at the Munich ARD Competition soon after it’s formation in the fall of 1969.

Over 44years, based out of New York City, The Tokyo Quartet has gone on to perform concerts throughout the world. The Quartet has released more than 60 recordings which earned numerous awards and six Grammy nominations. As an individual violist, Mr. Isomura also records solo viola repertoire and sonatas. An artist-in-resident at Yale University School of Music since 1977, Mr. Isomura currently is a Senior Professor at Toho School of Music and faculty member at Suntory Hall Chamber Music Academy. In 2013, he received the Foreign Ministry Award from Japan. In 2014, he received a career Achievement Award from American Viola Society.
