Takaki Kurihara(Baritone)

Takaki Kurihara graduated from the Vocal Music Department of the Faculty of Music at Tokyo University of the Arts and completed his master's degree in Opera Performance. In Italy, he made his operatic debut in Madama Butterfly at the Teatro dell’Opera Giocosa, having been selected by legendary soprano Renata Scotto. His performance received high praise from Scotto, who also directed the production.

Kurihara was accepted into the prestigious Rodolfo Celletti Bel Canto Academy, a gateway for young European opera singers, where he honed his skills in Martina Franca. He has appeared at Teatro di San Carlo—one of Italy’s three leading opera houses—performing in Don Carlo by Giuseppe Verdi alongside international stars such as Elīna Garanča, Ludovic Tézier, and Michele Pertusi, and in Macbeth with Luca Salsi and Sondra Radvanovsky.
In the United States, he performed as a solo artist at the Savannah VOICE Festival and at Opera as Drama in New York, both organized by legendary baritone Sherrill Milnes, who highly praised Kurihara’s artistry. He was a finalist for the Young Artist Program at the Vienna State Opera.
Kurihara has received numerous awards, including the Excellence Prize (2nd Place) at the 35th Soleil Music Competition, the Grand Prize (1st Place) at the 47th Italian Vocal Competition in Milan, the Audience Prize at the Sherrill Milnes International Voice Competition, the TIVAA Prize at the Giovanni Consiglio International Competition, 2nd Prize at the Roberto De Simone Memorial Vocal Competition, and 1st Prize at the Piccolo Teatro International Vocal Competition. He was also honored with the 40th Toyama Prefecture "Toyama Award."
He has studied under Taichi Uchiyama, Takanori Kurosaki, Akiya Fukushima, Sherrill Milnes, Luca Gorla, Roberto Coviello, and Mariella Devia. Kurihara received support from the Nomura Foundation and was selected as a Cultural Affairs Agency Overseas Trainee for Emerging Artists as well as a Rohm Music Foundation Scholarship recipient. He studied in Italy and became the first Japanese singer ever accepted into the Young Artist Program at Teatro di San Carlo, where he trained under Mariella Devia.
In addition to his success across Europe, Kurihara has recently gained acclaim for his recital and performance in the title role of Don Giovanni at the Cairo Opera House in Egypt.
