Les Métaboles(Chorus)

Created in 2010 at the instigation of Léo Warynski, Les Métaboles bring together professional singers invested in the repertoire for a cappella choir. Its name, inspired by a piece by Henri Dutilleux (1916-2013), written around the idea of metamorphosis, evokes the ability of the choir to transform itself according to the repertoires, while promoting its roots in the era of time. The ensemble is dedicated to the breadth of the choir repertoire and defends it before a varied audience.

While a large part of the activity of Les Métaboles is devoted to the a cappella repertoire, collaborations with orchestras and instrumental ensembles are part of its musical season. Thus the ensemble occasionally joins forces with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Strasbourg, the National Orchestra of Metz Grand Est, the Chamber Orchestra of Paris, the Ensemble intercontemporain or the Ensemble Multilatérale.

Les Métaboles are regularly invited to festivals and prestigious venues in France and Europe (Philharmonie in Paris, Opéra-Comique, Festival d’Automne in Paris, Cité musicale-Metz, festival de Ribeauvillé, Les Sommets musicaux de Gstaad, Les Rencontres musicales d’Évian, Opéra de Mainz in Germany, Elbphilharmonie in Hambourg, Mozarteum in Salzbourg, Tokyo Bunka Kaikan).

Les Métaboles reserve an important place for contemporary composers through the commissioning of works, the creation and dissemination of the repertoire of living composers. They also invest in the training of professionals through the ARCO composition academy and through training for young choir directors.

Le Moine et le Voyou, fifth album, was released in September 2023 (label NoMadMusic), after The Angels (2021), Jardin féérique (2020), Une nuit américaine (2016) and Mysterious Nativity (2014). Acclaimed unanimously by the critics, these recordings impose the Métaboles among the best French choirs, as much by its vocal excellence (accuracy, sound color, homogeneity of timbres...) as by the originality of the repertoires chosen.

In 2018, Les Métaboles won the Liliane Bettencourt prize for choral singing.

Les Métaboles are « associated ensemble » of La Cité de la Voix, Centre national d’art vocal de Bourgogne-Franche-Comté.

Les Métaboles receive support from the Drac Grand Est as a subsidised ensemble, from the Grand Est region, from the CNM, from Sacem and from Spedidam.
Marie-Christine Dutheillet de Lamothe is a major patron of the ensemble.
The Fondation d'entreprise Société Générale is the ensemble's main sponsor.
Les Métaboles is a member of Fevis, the Futurs Composés network and Profedim.
