From 2012-2014, John was a member of Ensemble ACJW in New York City, where he performed regularly at Carnegie Hall, presented outreach performances throughout the five boroughs, and served as artist in residence at the 51st Ave Academy, a public elementary school in Elmhurst, Queens. John’s work as a violist has taken him around the world, performing with leading ensembles like Klangforum Wien, The St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Talea Ensemble, and Omnibus Ensemble in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
In 2007, John partnered with conductor Vimbayi Kaziboni to found What’s Next? Ensemble in Los Angeles, where they regularly presented concerts focusing on local composers as well as international favorites ranging from Grisey to JacobTV.
John currently serves as Co-Artistic Director of VIVO Music Festival, an annual chamber music festival based in Columbus, Ohio. John has participated in the Marlboro Music Festival, Lucerne Festival Academy, Verbier Festival Orchestra, Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, International Ensemble Modern Academy in Schwaz, and the Music Academy of the West.
In 2019, he founded the Trio Estatico with two other violists, Megumi Kasakawa (Ensemble Modern) and Paul Beckett (Klangforum Wien).
His original compositions and artistic projects have been presented in Los Angeles, New York, Amsterdam, Berlin, Tashkent and Omaha.
He has taught viola at the National Conservatory of Music and Dance in Lyon (CNSMDL) since 2021 and at the American Conservatory in Fontainebleau since 2017.
