Eduard Kutrowatz(Piano)

His versatility as a musician has always been of major importance to Eduard Kutrowatz. Thus, he did not only study piano (with Renate Kramer-Preisenhammer at Vienna University of Music), but also the full range of percussion instruments (with Richard Hochrainer and Walter Veigl). Furthermore, he has devoted himself to choir music for many years. Masterclasses with Franz Rupp und Karl Ulrich Schnabel completed his artistic education. Since 1987 he teaches at Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts.

For years now he is part of one of the internationally most successful piano duos (together with his brother Johannes), which makes him a welcomed guest at renowned festivals (Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, Ruhr Piano Festival, Kremerata Lockenhaus, Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival – Finland, Eisenstadt Haydn Festival, Festival di musica da camera Cervo, Zarda Music Festival, Wiener Festwochen et al.). Their international presence and versatility are manifest in the Kutrowatz brothers´ concert calendar and travel journal of recent years (Vienna – Konzerthaus, Musikverein, Joe Zawinul´s jazz club Birdland, Tokyo – Suntory Hall, Bayreuth – Markgräfliches Opernhaus, London – Wigmore Hall, South Bank Centre, Munich – Herkulessaal, Toronto – Centre for the Arts, Sidney...).
The artist´s solo repertoire shows his love for Romanticism and Jazz - his personal icons are Franz Schubert and Franz Liszt, equally important pillars are Dave Brubeck and Oscar Peterson. His cooperation with singers and choirs as well as chamber music in various forms have always been an important challenge throughout Eduard Kutrowatz´s career as a pianist and an essential means of satisfying his need to express himself artistically. Among his partners are singers Angelika Kirchschlager, Elisabeth Kulman, Ildiko Raimondi, Anja Silja, Adrian Eröd and Herbert Lippert, the Wiener Kammerchor and the Chamber Choir Novisbirsk /Russia, the Chorus Sine Nomine …....
He performed as a soloist as well as a conductor with the following orchestras: "Wiener Concert Verein" (Chamber orchestra of the "Vienna Symphonic Orchestra"), Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna, Kremerata Baltica Lockenhaus, Györ Philharmonic Orchestra (Hungary), New Seoul Philharminic Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra Novosibirsk and the Tokyo Phiharmonic Orchestra.
In recent years he has been more and more appearing as a composer.
Together with his brother Johannes he was till 2015 artistic director of the “klangfruehling Burg Schlaining” festival, which they founded in 2001. Starting from 2009 the both take over the artistic direction of the International Liszt Festival Raiding.
