Lilli Fischer(Director)

Lilli Fischer is an Austrian opera director based in Vienna. She began her career as a freelance assistant director and stage manager. In 2012, she was an assistant director for Matthias von Stegmann’s production of Lohengrin at the New National Theatre Tokyo, marking her first collaboration in Japan.

From 2015 to 2022, Lilli worked at the Vienna State Opera as an assistant director and revival director, contributing to a wide range of productions. She revived works such as Cardillac (Bechtolf), Eugen Onegin (Tcherniakov), and Die Fledermaus (Schenk), and collaborated with directors including Irina Brook, Vera Nemirova, Laurent Pelly, Simon Stone and Dmitri Tcherniakov. During this time, she also directed her own projects — particularly in children’s opera — in collaboration with the Mozart Boys' Choir Vienna. Her productions include Brundibar, Bastien und Bastienne, and a Christmas Story she conceived and directed.
Returning to freelance work, Lilli has focused on directing her own opera productions, including co-directing Così fan tutte for Opera Lungau in 2023. Her upcoming engagements will bring her to Salzburg, Berlin, and Winterthur.
