“Spring Festival in Tokyo 2020” Program Revealed

"SPRING FESTIVAL IN TOKYO" is delighted to announce its 2020 program which runs from March 13th (Friday) to April 18th (Saturday), 2020 at various venues in Ueno, Tokyo.

The Festival comprises approximately 200 concerts -including opera (concert style), orchestra concerts, chamber music concerts, and lieder concerts which will be held not only in concert halls but also in museums and various places in Ueno Park.

 

Festival highlights include:

The special projects such as the "Riccardo Muti Italian Opera Academy in Tokyo" and "Wagner für Kinder (Wagner for Children)" productions in cooperation with the Bayreuth Festival. Tokyo-HARUSAI Wagner Series is to stage Richard Wagner's epic opera Tristan und Isolde. Maestro Marek Janowski conducts NHK Symphony Orchestra, starring Andreas Schager and Petra Lang in the title roles of Tristan und Isolde. The Festival launches new series “Tokyo-HARUSAI Puccini Series”, which is a series of Puccini's operas in concert performance with Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra. The Festival's signature series "Tokyo-HARUSAI Choral Works Series" with Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, "Tokyo-HARUSAI Lieder Series", and the series of the concerts featuring Ludwig van Beethoven, celebrating the 250th anniversary of his birth. Other highlights include museum concerts in Ueno park, and "Tokyo-HARUSAI for Kids" a fantastic program of events for children. The 2020 Festival will be one rich in quality and diversity, surely to celebrate the arrival of spring.

The information for the Festival's popular series of FREE mini concerts "Concerts in Harmony with Cherry Blossoms" will be announced at a later date.

Priority booking opens from 10th November, and general booking opens on 15th December.
