The Arrival of Spring

I am pleased to inform you that we now have the program for the 12th Spring Festival in Tokyo 2016.

This summer, I went to various music festivals within Europe, listening to concerts and meeting with people involved. As much time is always needed to prepare for the Festivals, my experiences this summer will be reflected in programs some years ahead, such as the Festivals in 2019 or 2020. There is an old Japanese poem “I see the solar spring has arrived before the New Years.” The program we will be presenting for the 2016 Festival was in fact conceived a number of years prior and had been in the works for quite some time. There is much anticipation towards the Festival, as we look forward to the end of winter and the arrival of spring.

Playing for the enjoyment of the wonderful Japanese audience is indeed a great joy for performers. And for us and performers from overseas alike, we truly look forward to the unique experience of reveling in the artistic feast of both the cherry blossoms and music that the Music Festival in Ueno has to offer.

From its inception, we had hoped to continue the Festival for at least 10 years. And now those 10 years have passed and in looking at the next 10 years, the Festival has slowly become a seasonal tradition enjoyed in Ueno during the spring. Going forward, with each year, we hope to further develop and enhance the Festivals’ content in response to those admirable audiences worldwide awaiting the unique Festival.

Soon the cold winter season will be bestowed upon us.

And in spring, I hope that you will all and enjoy a peaceful and harmonious time at the Spring Festival in Tokyo.
