RICCARDO MUTI ITALIAN OPERA ACADEMY IN TOKYO 2019

Giuseppe Verdi “RIGOLETTO”

CALL FOR APPLICATION for conductor

The deadline has already passed.

1) MUSICAL PROGRAMME AND COURSE TEACHER

The Riccardo Muti Italian Opera Academy in Tokyo 2019 will focus on Giuseppe Verdi’s opera “Rigoletto”.

Maestro Muti will teach during each stage of the preparation process.

Maestro Muti will conduct “Rigoletto” (concert style/excerpts) on April 4th.

The concerts conducted by the selected conductors will be in 2020.

2) EDUCATIONAL CLASSES

It is possible to participate educational classes for active conductor.

3) DURATION AND LOCATION OF THE COURSE

The course will take place from March 28th to April 4th, 2019, at Tokyo Bunka Kaikan Main Hall and Tokyo University of the Arts.

Course participation of the selected students: from March 28th to April 4th, 2019, including Riccardo Muti at the piano presents “Rigoletto”, and a concert “Rigoletto” conducted by Maestro.

The schedule will be changed at any time for technical reasons or circumstances beyond our control.
4) REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICANTS
  • Age between 18 and 35 years (as of April 1st, 2018).
  • Having skills of conducting.
  • Currently attending music school, college, university, conservatory, having diploma released by those or equivalent certification for titles not obtained in Japan, or having same level of skills as diploma recipients. And furthermore, aspiring to be a professional musician.
  • Having English speaking/listening skills in daily conversation level.
  • Attending all rehearsals and concerts scheduled in both 2019 and 2020
    *Academy 2020: March 6th to March 15th, 2020 (TBC)
5) APPLICATION FORM

The application form must be filled in using the attached form and sent via e-mail to:
academy@tokyo-harusai.com from October 1st to November 12th, 2018.

The subject of the e-mail must contain the terms “Academy Call for Application: Conductor”.

The application implies the candidate’s full awareness and unconditioned acceptation of what expressed in this notification.

Applications sent before and after that period will not be considered.

The application must contain:

  • Filled-in application form
  • Artistic CV in English
  • Copy of a regular ID that certifies your age (passport for non-Japan citizens)
  • File mp4 of candidate’s performance (minimum 15 min. duration)
    *The content in mp4 should be your conducting classical music with the orchestra.
    *If it is difficult to send mp4 file as an attachment, please upload it to a file-sharing site and send us a link to download. (Just a link to video-sharing website is not acceptable.)

6) SELECTION AND EXAMS

A jury appointed by Maestro Muti will evaluate all eligible applications received by the deadline. Those chosen for the final audition, directed by Maestro, will be contacted by email by January 31st, 2019 and must be at Tokyo University of Arts in Tokyo, Japan on March 28th, 2019. Please set the e-mail from academy@tokyo-harusai.com acceptable in your mailbox in advance.

The exam will focus on Giuseppe Verdi’s opera “Rigoletto”.

The names of the selected students will be communicated at the end of the exams.

For the selected students, the participation is free.

At the end of the Riccardo Muti Italian Opera Academy in Tokyo, active students will receive a Certificate of Participation signed by Riccardo Muti.

Any travel, as well as boarding and lodging costs, will be entirely at each participant’s own expense.

7) INFORMATION ON THE TREATMENT OF PERSONAL DATA

Your personal data in the application form will be shared and treated under strict control by Spring Festival in Tokyo Executive Committee and RMMusic. It will not be used in any case except for “Italian Opera Academy in Tokyo” and matters related to it.
