Spring Festival in Tokyo - Tokyo Opera Nomori 2012 -
The 8th "Spring Festival in Tokyo - Tokyo Opera Nomori 2012 -" will be held from March 16 (Fri), 2012 through April 8 (Sun), 2012. During this period of approximately one month, about 80 performances will take place in the greenery of Ueno Park, decorated with cherry blossoms.
The annual "Tokyo-HARUSAI Wagner Series" with the NHK Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo will once again gather eminent Wagner singers to present Wagner's masterpiece opera Tannhäuser, conducted by Adam Fischer.
In "Lieder Series," a Japanese song will be performed in lied duo with Mitsuko Shirai and Hartmut Höll. The Festival will also bring joint performances of young and talented musicians as the mezzo soprano Michaela Selinger, her debut performance here in Japan, with Yu Kosuge.
The instrumental and chamber music performances will include classical music masterpieces such as Beethoven's Violin Sonatas, Mendelssohn's Octet in E-flat major, op. 20, and Brahms Trio. Moreover, a new series "Sadao Harada Violoncello Series" will be presented as well as other new and exciting projects such as the formation of the "Tokyo-HARUSAI Chamber Orchestra" as the Festival's resident ensemble.
Further, as with last year, the Festival will present performances of "Reading & Music", the beautiful lyrics of "Japanese Songs," Argentine Tango, and Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons". With programs such as "The Museum Concerts" to be held inside museums in a location no other than Ueno, a crossroads of art and culture, and small, open concerts, "Concerts in Harmony with Cherry Blossoms," the Festival's 2012 lineup will be one rich in quality and diversity, surely to celebrate the arrival of spring.
